Connect Discord, Circle or GitHub

Connect a Discord server, a Circle community or a GitHub organization on the Other apps tab, then use a workflow action to give buyers a server role, community access or repository access.

If what you sell lives outside Zanfia, on a Discord server, in a Circle community or in a private GitHub repository, you can connect that service and let a workflow add and remove your buyers there. When you finish, the service shows Connected on the Other apps tab and its action is available in the workflow builder.

Connecting is step one; nobody gets access until a workflow uses the connection. Both parts are described below.

Connect Discord

1

Open the Other apps tab

In the sidebar open Integrations and choose Other apps (/integrations/apps). Click Connect on the Discord card. A three-step window opens: Enter the server ID, Add the Zanfia bot to the server, Integration verification.

2

Enter the server ID

Paste the Server ID and click Next. The Where do I find this? guide explains how to get it: in Discord open User Settings → Advanced and turn on Developer Mode, right-click your server's icon, choose "Copy Server ID".

3

Add the Zanfia bot

Click Add a bot. Discord opens in a new tab; add the bot to your server there, then return to Zanfia and click Next. The bot is what lets Zanfia add and remove users on your server automatically.

4

Wait for the verification

Zanfia checks the connection. On success the server appears in the Discord Manage window with a Zanfia bot tag and the list of its roles. If verification fails with "The specified server id is not correctly integrated with the Zanfia bot", click Start all over again and repeat the steps.

Good to know

The bot can only hand out roles that sit below its own role. If the Manage window warns Our bot role position is too low, open your Discord server settings, move the bot's role above the roles you want to assign, then use the refresh icon next to the server. Refresh also reloads the role list after you add roles in Discord.

Connect Circle

On the Other apps tab click Connect on the Circle card. Enter an Integration name and the API key. The guide describes where the key comes from: sign in to your Circle community as an admin, open Settings → Developers, create a new token and make sure it is a v1 API token ("The generated API key must be intended for API v1"). After saving, the Manage window lists the community's Spaces, Groups and Member tags; use refresh to reload them after changes in Circle. A refused key shows "The provided API key is invalid."

Connect GitHub

On the Other apps tab click Connect on the GitHub card, then Install GitHub App. You are taken to GitHub to install the app on your organization and choose which repositories it can reach; afterwards you return to Zanfia and see "GitHub connected successfully." The connected organization and its GitHub Teams appear in the window, with a Refresh button.

GitHub organization required

"The app can only be installed on a GitHub organization. Personal accounts are not supported - create a free organization on GitHub first." An installation on a personal account is refused with a message saying so.

Give buyers access with a workflow

Access is granted and removed by a workflow step. In the workflow builder (Workflows in the sidebar, /workflows) the step picker has an Other apps category:

StepWhat it can doRequires
Discord actionAdd a client to the server or remove them, add a role or remove a roleA connected Discord server
Circle actionAdd or remove a client in a community, a space, a group or a member tagA connected Circle account
GitHub actionAdd a client to your GitHub organization or remove themA connected GitHub organization

Until the service is connected the step is unavailable and says, for example, "Connect Discord in Integrations to use this action". For example, one workflow triggered by New purchase adds the client, and another triggered by End of access period removes them. Workflows are described in Build a workflow.

For Discord, the client also has to link their own Discord account to their Zanfia account. Until they do, the step waits with the status Waiting for Discord connection.

Disconnect

In the Manage window of Discord or Circle, click the trash icon next to the server or account and confirm. For Circle the confirmation reads "Remove this connection? Anything that uses it will stop working."; for Discord, "Are you sure you want to remove the integration with the selected account?". Workflow steps that used the connection stop working until you connect it again and select it in the step.
