The community feed and search
How the combined feed works: what members land on, how posts are sorted and bumped, what pinning does, how a single channel differs, and how post search finds things.
The feed is the home of a community: one list with the posts from every channel a member can read. This article explains what decides the order, what you can control as the creator, and how members find older posts.
Where the feed is
A member who opens the community lands on the feed, at /app/community/<slug>/feed on your platform address. How it is reached depends on the layout you chose in Settings → Appearance:
| Layout | Where the feed entry is | Where the search box is |
|---|---|---|
| Sidebar | Feed, with a house icon, at the top of the channel list | In the bar above the posts, next to the title |
| Topbar | Feed, the first chip in the row of channel chips | In the middle of the top bar |
Both layouts share a row of section tabs: Community, Resources (when the member has materials), Calendar (when events are on), Members (when the full members list is shown) and Leaderboards (when gamification is on).
On the feed each post shows the name of its channel next to the time. Opening a single channel shows only that channel's posts, without the channel name.
How posts are ordered
The sort selector above the posts has three options. The member's choice is remembered on their account.
| Option | Order |
|---|---|
| Recent activity (default) | Posts with the newest activity first. A comment from someone other than the author moves a post to the top. |
| Latest | Newest-written posts first, whatever happened to them later. |
| Top | Posts with the most comments first. |
A bumped post shows its original date plus active and the time of the last activity. Comments by the author on their own post do not bump it. While the feed is open, comment counters update by themselves and new posts appear without a reload; the order of already loaded posts changes after a reload. Older posts load automatically as the member scrolls; there is no button to load more.
Inside a single channel the options are Latest, Oldest and Top activity.
Pinned posts
Open the ⋮ menu on a post and choose Pin to top. The post gets a pin icon and stays at the very top of the feed, above bumped and new posts, whichever channel it is in. Un-pin from top in the same menu releases it. Pinning is available to the owner, admins and moderators.
What a post card shows
Long posts are trimmed with Show More. Under a post with comments the feed shows one or two comment previews, a View all N comments link and a Write a comment… box, so members can reply without opening the post. A comment that is only a voice message, a GIF or a photo is previewed with a label (Voice message, GIF, Photo). Clicking a post opens it in an overlay with the full discussion; closing the overlay returns to the same place in the feed.
What stays out of the feed
| Content | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Posts from channels the member cannot read | Never shown, under any sort order. This covers restricted roles and level-gated channels. |
| Scheduled posts | Invisible to members until they publish. |
| Posts older than the member's access | Hidden when Archive from purchase date is on in Settings → Access & features. |
| Chat messages and links | Chats and links are not posts; open them from the channel list. |
Search posts
The search box reads Search posts…. It searches the titles and the text of published posts in the whole community, not only the channel that is open.
Type at least two characters
One letter does nothing. From two characters a list opens under the box, showing Searching…
and then the matching posts: the title in bold, the channel after a #, the author, and for a
match in the text a snippet around the word.
Open a result
Click a row, or move with the arrow keys and press Enter. The post opens for reading with its comments, and the box clears. Esc closes the list. When nothing matches, the list says No posts found.
Good to know
Search respects channel access exactly like the feed: a post in a channel the member cannot read never appears in their results, while you, as the owner, find it. Deleted posts drop out of the results. In the sidebar layout the search box is shown on wider screens only.
