Write a post

Write and publish a community post with images, video, files, a poll or a voice message, keep an unfinished post as a draft, and manage comments on it.

Posts are written in the community itself, not in the dashboard. You and your members use the same composer; as the owner you get a few extra controls. When you finish, your post is live in its channel and in the feed.

Write and publish

1

Open the composer

Open the community (/app/community/<slug>/feed) and click Add new post at the top of the feed or of a channel. The box expands into an editor and the page behind it dims.

2

Pick the channel

In a channel, the post goes to that channel. On the feed, next to your name you see posting in with a channel picker: choose where the post belongs. Only channels you can write in are listed.

3

Write the post

Title (optional) takes up to 300 characters. In the text area type your content; typing / opens a menu of blocks (headings, bulleted and numbered lists, a quote, a code block), and typing @ mentions a member. The Publish button becomes active as soon as there is content.

4

Add media

Use the toolbar under the text. The table below lists every button.

5

Publish

Click Publish. The post appears at the top of the feed (below pinned posts) and in its channel, and members with the feed open see it without reloading.

The composer toolbar

ButtonWhat it adds
Add imageOne or more pictures inside the text. The preview shows immediately, slightly faded, while the file uploads.
Add VideoUpload a file (MP4, MOV or AVI, up to 2 GB) or paste a URL from YouTube or Vimeo. Upload is offered when Allow video uploads is on.
Add from media libraryAn image or a processed video from your media library (Images and Videos tabs). Shown to the owner and admins only.
Attach filesFiles attached under the post, for example a PDF.
EmojiAn emoji at the cursor.
Add GIFA GIF from the built-in search.
Add pollA poll with 2 to 10 options. Members vote on the post and see the vote count.
Record a voice messageA voice clip of up to 5 minutes. A post can consist of a voice message alone.

Videos in posts never start playing by themselves; members press play.

Drafts and leaving the composer

Clicking Cancel or pressing Esc with something written asks Discard this post? with three choices:

ButtonResult
Keep editingBack to the editor, nothing changes.
Save draftThe editor closes and the title and text come back the next time you click Add new post in that channel, also after a reload.
DiscardThe content is gone for good.

A draft is kept in the browser you wrote it in, one per channel. It does not follow you to another device.

SettingsOwner, admins, moderatorsPost settings: Adding comments, Display comments, Display reactions and Post always expanded.

Turning Adding comments off keeps existing comments readable and shows "Adding comments is turned off for this post". Turning Display comments off hides the discussion and shows "Comments are turned off for this post".

Comments and reactions

Members comment in the Write a comment… box under a post card or in Add your comment... inside the opened post, and answer each other with Reply. The comment box has Bold, Italic, Strikethrough, Emoji, Add image, Add GIF and the voice recorder. A comment takes up to 4 attachments; images can be JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP, up to 10 MB each. Reactions are added with the like button or Add a reaction.

Clicking an image in a post or a comment opens it in a dark full-screen viewer with a download button. With several images the viewer shows a counter such as 1 / 3, arrows, and a strip of thumbnails; the arrow keys switch images too.

Good to know

A half-written comment is protected as well: closing the post with Esc or by clicking outside asks Discard your comment? with Keep editing and Discard. An attached image counts as content even without text. Comments have no drafts, so a discarded comment cannot be restored.
