Send an SMS campaign
Send a one-off text message through your own SMSAPI or Twilio account to clients who have a phone number and gave SMS consent, now or on a schedule.
An SMS campaign is a one-off text message to your clients, sent through your own account at an SMS provider. When you finish, the campaign is sending or scheduled and its statistics are on screen.
Plan
SMS campaigns are available on Growth and above, and during the free trial. The messages are billed by your SMS provider, not by Zanfia.
Before you start
| You need | Where |
|---|---|
| A connected SMS provider | Integrations → SMS (/integrations/sms): connect SMSAPI or Twilio. See Integrations. |
| Clients with SMS consent | A phone number alone is not enough, and an email opt-in never counts. SMS needs its own explicit consent. |
A client gets SMS consent by ticking the SMS consent checkbox on a signup form, or when you use Mark as subscribed on the SMS chip of their profile and pick the consent basis, which is saved on the client.
Create and send
Open SMS campaigns
In the sidebar open Marketing → SMS campaigns (/marketing/sms-campaigns) and click New SMS
campaign. The editor has two steps: Content and Send.
Write the message
Type the text under Message. Personalize: inserts personalization tokens, such as the recipient's first name, at the cursor. The Preview shows the message on a phone with a sample recipient and counts the SMS segments. A message may use at most 10 SMS per recipient; Polish letters (ą, ę, ł…) shorten one SMS from 160 to 70 characters.
Add an opt-out line (optional)
Add an opt-out line (reply STOP) appends a line such as "Reply STOP to opt out" to every message. It only works when your sender is a two-way phone number and the STOP webhook is set up in Integrations → SMS. With a sender name recipients cannot reply, so leave it off.
Choose the recipients
Click Next. Under Recipients choose Everyone with SMS consent or a segment. A segment is always narrowed to clients with a phone number and an explicit SMS consent; the count below shows how many that is. Sender shows which SMS account the campaign goes through.
Send or schedule
In Send time choose Send now or Schedule for later (at least 2 minutes ahead and within 30 days). The checklist confirms the provider, the message length and the schedule. Click the send button and confirm Send this SMS campaign now?; the confirmation states how many recipients and SMS your provider will bill.
Statistics
| Number | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Recipients | Clients the campaign was addressed to. |
| Sent | Messages accepted by your provider. |
| Rejected | Messages the provider refused, with the reason in the recipients table. |
| Invalid number | Phone numbers that could not be read as international numbers. |
| Billed SMS | The number of SMS segments your provider charges for. |
If the send stops, the report explains why and what to do, for example "Your SMS provider account has no funds left. Top it up and send again." or "The SMS provider rejected your credentials. Reconnect it in Settings → Integrations → SMS and send again."
Good to know
The background task Sending an SMS campaign appears under the bell, Tasks tab. A recipient can withdraw SMS consent on the unsubscribe page of any of your emails (Also stop sending me text messages (SMS)). To text one person at a specific moment instead, use the Send SMS step of a workflow.
