Add, import and export clients
Add one client by hand, import a CSV or a pasted list of contacts with tags and product access, and export clients to a CSV file with the columns you choose.
Clients appear in your list on their own when they buy or sign up. This article covers the three manual ways in and out: adding one person, importing many, and exporting the list to a file. All three start from the buttons in the top-right corner of Customers → All customers (/customers).
Add one client
Open Add customer
Click Add customer. In the Email field start typing: existing clients are suggested as you type. If the address already belongs to a client, the window says "This customer is already in your list." with an Open profile button.
Fill in the details
Enter the Email (required), Name and Phone (optional). To give access right away, turn on Grant product access now and choose the Product, an optional Price, the Access start date and the Access period (Lifetime or Until a date). Email the client about access decides whether they are notified. The access options are the same as in Grant access manually.
Save
Click Add customer. You see "Customer added." and land on the new client's profile. If the client already existed, you see "This customer already exists." and their profile opens instead.
Import many clients
Choose the source
Click Import customers and pick one of three tabs. Upload CSV: drop a file; only an "email" column is required, and first name, last name and phone are picked up automatically (Download a sample CSV gives you a template). Paste: paste addresses one per line or separated by commas, or rows copied from a spreadsheet. Add manually: type addresses and press Enter, comma or space after each. Click Next.
Review, tag and grant access
The review step shows how many contacts are ready and how many rows will be skipped as invalid or duplicated. Under Tag imported contacts you can pick tags for everyone in the import. Under Grant access to products you can pick one or more products; each product then gets its own price or access period, and one Access start date and the Email the client about access switch apply to all of them.
Start the import
Click Import N contacts (or Import N contacts + grant N products). The import runs in the background: "you can close this window and it will finish on its own." A progress bar counts the imported contacts, and each product gets its own bar under Access grants.
Read the result
The summary reads "N customers created, N already existed." and, if anything was left out, "N rows skipped (invalid or duplicated)." Addresses that are not valid emails are listed so you can fix them and import those rows again. The client list refreshes by itself over the next minute.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Size of one import | Up to 10,000 contacts. A larger file is refused with a request to split it. |
| Clients who already exist | They are not duplicated. They still receive the tags and the product access you chose. |
| Contacts limit of the plan | New contacts above the limit are not imported; the summary says how many. After upgrading you can import the same file again, because existing contacts are skipped. |
| Marketing consent | An import does not subscribe anyone to marketing emails. If the people agreed to receive them, record it with Subscribe to marketing emails in the bulk actions. |
| Active-customer limit | Contacts without product access do not count. Granting products during the import does. See Client limits. |
Export clients to CSV
Decide what to export
For the whole list, optionally set filters first, then click Export CSV. For specific people, tick their rows and choose Edit selected → Export to CSV. The window states the scope, for example "You are about to export 42 customers matching your current filters."
Choose the columns
"Name, email, phone and language are always included." Tick the extra column groups you need: Tags, Purchase stats, Email subscription status, First / last seen dates, Product accesses (active and expired, with access end dates; this one takes a moment), Invoice data, First-touch attribution and Extra identifiers (previous emails, Discord, GitHub). When exporting the whole list you can also limit it with Customer added between (optional).
Download
Click Export N customers. The file downloads in your browser. One export holds up to 50,000 rows; above that you see "The export hit the row limit - the file is incomplete.", so narrow the filters and export in parts.
Good to know
Moving a mailing list from another email tool is a separate flow described in Email and campaigns. The Import customers and Add customer buttons need permission to edit clients, and Export CSV needs the export permission, so some team members do not see them.
