Transcripts, chapters and moments

Transcribe one video, a module or your whole library, read and export the transcript, then mark chapters and moments by hand or have AI propose them.

A transcript is the text of what is said in a video. It is the base for everything AI does with your course (quizzes, summaries, chapters, the "Ask the course" tutor), and chapters and moments help clients find their way around a long lesson. Transcripts exist only for videos uploaded to Zanfia, not for external video lessons.

Transcribe a lesson

1

Open the Transcription tab

In the course editor open a video lesson, and under the player choose Transcription. The video has to be ready first; while it is still encoding the tab says "Waiting for encoding to finish before transcribing."

2

Start it

Click Transcribe. You get "Transcription queued - we'll update this tab when it finishes." The work runs in the background, so you can leave the lesson. When it is done the text appears in the tab together with the detected Language.

3

Redo it if needed

Regenerate transcript runs the transcription again, and Retry transcription appears after a failure. A video with no sound shows "This video has no audio track to transcribe." and cannot be transcribed.

Transcribe many videos

ScopeWhereHow
One moduleCourse editor, the module's ⋯ menu → Transcribe lesson videosThe window lists the module's video lessons; untranscribed ones are pre-selected, finished ones are tagged Completed. Up to 10 videos per run.
Courses or all videosMedia → Transcripts (/media/transcripts) → Transcription planner (/media/transcribe)Tick whole courses, single modules or individual videos (also those Outside courses) and click Transcribe … videos. There is no batch limit here.

The planner shows Already transcribed, Left to transcribe, what you have Selected and Minutes left this month. If the selection needs more minutes than you have, it says "Your selection exceeds your remaining minutes. Deselect some videos or buy a minute pack."

To have every new upload transcribed without clicking, turn on Auto-transcribe video uploads in Settings → Workspace (/settings/workspace), section Transcription. The same section sets the Transcription language used as the default when transcripts are generated; automatic detection is one of the choices.

Read, edit and export transcripts

Media → Transcripts (/media/transcripts) lists every transcribed video with a preview and word count. Opening one shows the video next to its text with four views: Reader, Timestamps, Captions and Repurpose. Edit text lets you correct words, Download saves the text, and Re-transcribe starts over.

Export on the transcripts list combines several transcripts into one file: tick a whole course, a module or single videos, optionally With timestamps, and click Download.

The Captions tab (also under the player in the lesson) offers the From transcript track as a .vtt or .srt file to download. Adding caption languages by uploading files is marked Soon and is not available yet.

Chapters

1

Open the Chapters tab

Under the player choose Chapters. Chapters break the video into segments the client can jump to.

2

Add them by hand or with AI

Add chapter creates a row with Start, End and a title. Generate from transcript proposes a full list from the transcript, with titles in the language spoken in the video: "Proposed … chapters from the transcript - review and save when they look right."

3

Review and save

Edit or delete rows, then click Save chapters. Nothing is stored until you save, and leaving the tab discards a proposal. The start must be before the end and chapters cannot overlap. If a list already exists, Generate from transcript asks Replace the current list? first.

Moments

The Moments tab works the same way for single points in time: Add moment with a Time and a label, or Generate from transcript, then Save moments. Moments are the important spots of a lesson, such as a definition or a demo.

Clients see both lists under the lesson description, as Chapters and Moments.

Good to know

Transcription uses your monthly transcription minutes, counted by the length of the video; when they run out you see "Not enough transcription minutes for this job. Buy a minute pack or change your plan." Generating chapters and moments uses AI credits. A video without a transcript cannot have chapters or moments generated; transcribe it first, or use Transcribe now when an AI tool offers it.
