Email & campaigns overview
Every way Zanfia sends email for you: campaigns, newsletter issues, workflows, signup forms, system emails and your own notifications, with where each one lives and which plan it needs.
Zanfia sends email for you in several separate lanes. Knowing which lane a message belongs to tells you where to edit it, who receives it and whether it counts toward your monthly email allowance.
The email lanes
| Lane | What it is | Who receives it | Where you manage it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email campaigns | One-off emails you write and send or schedule: announcements, launches, regular mailings. | Clients with the Subscribed status, or a segment of them. | Marketing → Email campaigns (/marketing/broadcasts) |
| Newsletter issues | Posts of a newsletter product, sent by email and kept in its archive. | Everyone with active access to that newsletter product. | The newsletter product, archive editor (/newsletters/<id>/archive) |
| Workflows | Automations that react to an event (purchase, signup, tag, abandoned checkout) and run steps over time. | The person the event is about. | Workflows (/workflows) |
| System emails | Purchase confirmations, login codes, access reminders and community notifications sent in your name. | The client the event concerns. Sent regardless of the subscription status. | Your site → Settings → Emails (/site/emails) |
| Notifications to you | Emails about your clients' activity: new purchase, failed payment, cancellation and more. | Your workspace contact email, or your account email when none is set. | Settings → Workspace (/settings/workspace) |
| SMS campaigns | One-off text messages sent through your own SMSAPI or Twilio account. | Clients with a phone number and an explicit SMS consent. | Marketing → SMS campaigns (/marketing/sms-campaigns) |
Where things live in the sidebar
The Marketing group holds Email campaigns, SMS campaigns, Email templates (/marketing/email-templates) and Forms (/marketing/forms). Workflows is its own item with two views, List and Runs. Sending domains sit next to your site domain under Your site → Settings → Domains (/site/address). Your audience, its tags and segments are in Customers (/customers, /customers/segments).
Who can receive marketing email
A campaign sent to All subscribed goes only to clients whose email subscription status is Subscribed; a campaign sent to a segment goes to everyone in the segment except Unsubscribed and Pending confirmation clients. A client becomes subscribed by confirming a signup form, giving marketing consent at checkout, being imported as subscribed, or by you marking them by hand. Buying a product alone does not subscribe anyone. Every campaign carries an unsubscribe link, and an unsubscribed client is skipped by every later campaign. The details are in Subscribers, unsubscribes and blocked addresses.
Newsletter issues follow a different rule: they go to everyone who has access to the newsletter product, whatever their marketing status, because the issue is the product they signed up for.
Sender address
Until you connect your own domain, email is sent from a Zanfia address with your sender name. After you verify a domain, campaigns can be sent from any address on it, and you can choose to send system emails from it too. See Send from your own domain.
Plans and limits
| Feature | Availability |
|---|---|
| Signup forms, system emails, notifications to you | Every plan |
| Editing system emails | Growth and above |
| Newsletter issues sent from Zanfia | Every plan. They do not count toward the monthly email allowance. |
| Workflows | Every plan |
| Email campaigns, campaign look templates, campaign import, your own sending domain | Growth and above. Not available during the free trial. |
| SMS campaigns | Growth and above, and during the free trial |
On a plan without email campaigns the Email campaigns page shows an upgrade block instead of the list.
Every plan has a monthly email allowance. Campaigns, workflow emails, the weekly community digest and new-post emails to community members count toward it; purchase confirmations, login codes, notifications to you and test sends do not. A campaign that would exceed what is left is refused before it starts, with the numbers and the reset date. When the allowance is used up, new campaigns are blocked until it resets, while workflow emails and order confirmations keep going out. Your current usage is under Settings → Usage (/settings/usage), in the Emails sent this month row.
