AI tools in the course editor

Generate a course outline from an idea, summarize a lesson, turn a video into a text lesson, and propose chapters and moments from the transcript.

The course editor has AI helpers for the repetitive parts of building a course. Every one of them produces a draft that you review; nothing is published for you. They live in two places: the start screen of an empty course, and the lightning button (AI tools) in the top bar of the editor, next to Preview lesson.

What each tool does

Generate a course outline

1

Open an empty course

Open the course editor of a course that has no lessons yet (/courses/<productId>/lessons). Under Other ways to start: click Generate with AI.

2

Describe the course

In Generate course structure with AI, describe what you want to teach, for example "A 4-week course on prompt engineering for marketing teams. Beginners welcome." The Generate button stays disabled until you type something.

3

Review the draft

Generation takes up to a minute. You then see "Draft outline ready: … modules with … lessons. Everything stays a draft until you publish." and the modules and lessons appear in the outline on their own. Rename, reorder, delete and fill them like any content you added by hand.

Summarize a lesson or turn a video into text

1

Open the lesson

Open a video lesson whose transcript is finished (its Transcription tab shows the text). For a summary you can also open a text lesson; it is summarized from its own content.

2

Pick the action from the lightning menu

Summarize this lesson shows "Summarizing the lesson…" and then "Lesson description written from the lesson content." The description under the title is filled in and stays editable. Text lesson from this video shows "Writing the text lesson from the transcript…", then "Draft text lesson [title] created." and the editor jumps to the new lesson.

3

Edit before publishing

A generated text lesson is a draft placed right after its source video. Read it, correct it, and publish it when it says what you want.

When the video has no transcript

No item in the lightning menu is greyed out; each explains itself when clicked:

SituationWhat you see
The open lesson is not a video lesson"Open a video lesson with an uploaded video to use this action." (for a summary: "… or a text lesson to use this action.")
The video is not transcribedThe window This video isn't transcribed yet with Transcribe now. Cancel closes it and nothing changes.
The transcription is still running"Transcription is in progress - try again when it finishes."

Good to know

Every tool on this page uses your AI credits, and Transcribe now uses transcription minutes. The tools read the transcript of videos uploaded to Zanfia, so they do not work on external video lessons. For credits and add-ons see AI credits. Outside the editor, the course hub offers Assistant suggestions, such as drafting a quiz for a module that has none, which hand the task to the assistant with a ready prompt.
