A member is a client who has access to the community product. Most members arrive on their own, by buying or signing up. This article covers the cases where you step in: adding people, changing what they can do, and taking them out.

The members list

In the community editor open Members list (/communities/<productId>/editor/members).

ElementWhat it does
All / Active / DisabledFilters the list by status.
SearchThe Search members... box narrows the list as you type.
FiltersAdded between narrows by the date the member was added; Filter by role shows one role.
ColumnsMember, Role (with role badges), Status, Added at, Last seen.
ImportOpens Import members to bring in many people at once.
Export CSVDownloads the list as a CSV file.
Add memberAdds one person.
Row menuDetails, Remove from community, and Activate for a disabled member.

Clicking a row opens Member details: email, nickname, name, bio, links, tags, and when the member was added and last seen.

Add one member

1

Open Add member

Click Add member. Type the Email address; the field searches your existing clients and fills in their data, or you can enter a new address. Full name is optional.

2

Pick roles, if any

Roles adds roles on top of the base Member role, for example Moderator or a custom VIP role. Leave it empty for a regular member.

3

Decide about the email

Turn on Email the member about account creation if the person should be told by email that an account was created for them. It is off by default.

4

Confirm

Click Add member. You see "The member will appear on the list shortly." Adding a member grants them access to the community product, exactly like a manual grant (Grant access manually), so it counts toward your plan's client limit.

Import many members

Import opens the Import members window with five sources: Upload CSV, Paste, Add manually, From customers and From a product. A CSV needs only an email column; first name, last name and phone are recognized automatically, and Download a sample CSV gives you a template. From a product is the quick way to bring the buyers of a course into its community.

The import runs in the background and the members appear on the list as it progresses. Contacts over your plan's limit are skipped and reported at the end.

Change a member's roles or status

Open Member details and click Edit member. Roles sets the member's extra roles; the owner's role cannot be changed. The Status switch moves the member between Active and Disabled. A disabled member keeps their place on the list and their posts stay in the community, but they cannot enter it: they see "Your access to this community is blocked". Activate in the row menu brings them back.

Remove a member

1

Choose who to remove

Use ⋮ → Remove from community on one row, or tick several rows and click Remove from community (N) above the table.

2

Read the summary

The Remove from community window checks each member's access and lists who will be removed: their access to the product is revoked (archived). Two groups are skipped and listed separately: members with a live subscription ("Cancel the subscription from the product page first") and the community owner. A third group, Only community access, covers members whose access comes from another product: they are disabled in the community, and their other product access, orders and subscriptions do not change.

3

Confirm

Click Remove members. You see "Removal started" and the members disappear from the list shortly after.

Removal is reversible: "granting access to the product again restores the membership. Orders and history are kept." For a member who pays by subscription, end the subscription first: see Cancel or revoke a subscription.

Good to know

The members you see here and the clients on the product's Access tab are the same people seen from two sides. Payments, plans and access periods are managed on the product; roles, status and behavior are managed here.
